When you walk into Studio B at 2200 Studios in Sausalito—formerly known as the Record Plant—you’re not just stepping into a room. You’re stepping into music history.

In May 2025, Fuzz Collective had the incredible opportunity to record our second album in that historic space. With Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds) producing and Matty McDavid engineering, we tracked 12 brand-new songs—including a special cut, “You Know the Reason,” featuring Eddie himself on guitar. Special thanks to Owner, Chris Skarakis and GM, Michael Urbano for making it happen.

📍 Why 2200 Studios?

Formerly the Record Plant Sausalito, 2200 Studios has been a recording destination since 1972. The room feels alive with the ghosts of music history: Fleetwood Mac tracked Rumours here, Stevie Wonder began Songs in the Key of Life, Rick James laid down Street Songs, and Prince left his mark too.

We chose this studio not just for its pedigree, but for its feel. The space brings out authenticity, experimentation and captures sounds like no other studio. But it also inspires with its deep history and perhaps through the spirts that still live in its walls.

đŸŽ›ïž Studio B: Still Legendary

Everything about Studio B invites creativity:

  • Analog classics: Neve, API, Urei, Teletronix

  • World-class monitoring: TAD/JBL, ATC, and trusty NS-10s

  • A layout that captures live energy without sacrificing sonic clarity

We didn’t just play songs—we built moments. And Studio B made sure every one landed with the weight it deserved.

🎾 “You Know the Reason” – With Eddie on Guitar

One of the standout moments from the sessions was tracking “You Know the Reason,” a gritty, boogaloo-flavored new track—and having Eddie Roberts step out of the producer’s chair and onto the floor to play guitar on it was mind-bending.

The tone, the feel, the interplay—everything just locked. It was one of those “did-that-just-happen?” studio moments we’ll never forget.

đŸŽšïž Eddie Roberts & Matty McDavid: A Dream Team

Having Eddie produce this album brought a level of vision and soul that elevated every song. His deep knowledge of groove, arrangement, and dynamics pushed us to dig deeper and tighter. And when he plugged in his guitar for “You Know the Reason,” he didn’t just add to the song—he transformed it.

Matty McDavid, our sound engineer, was equally crucial. His balance of technical mastery and musical sensitivity ensured that every track captured the vibe we were chasing—raw, honest, alive.

đŸŽ” The 12 New Songs

This album is our biggest leap yet:

  • Funk and soul roots, evolved

  • Expansive rhythms and deeper songwriting

  • Live band feel, with moments of sonic experimentation

From tightly locked-in grooves to wide-open improvisation, each song carries a piece of who we are right now. All of the solos were recorded in the moment with no-overdubs. It helped to contribute to the live feel of the album.

📖 A Legacy We’re Proud to Join

Recording in the same space where legends once lived and played wasn’t lost on us. But this wasn’t about nostalgia—it was about contribution. These 12 original songs are our offering to the lineage of Studio B. And we made them count.
