THE SONICS RETURN!

No...not the Seattle Super Sonics. I'm talking about the original Northwest Sonics from Tacoma circa 1960. The Sonics 1965 release of 'Here Are The Sonics' and 'Boom' in 1966 would go on to become cult classics. Arguably the most influential band ever in the garage scene, The Sonics disbanded in 1968 as members turned to college and joined the war in Viet Nam. The original line-up reunited briefly in 1972 for a Paramount Theater show in Seaqttle before embarking on a 35 year pause from the band. In November of 2007 The Sonics played their first show together in 35 years at the Cavestomp garage rock festival in Brooklyn. The line up featured original members Gerry Roslie on vocals/keyboards, Larry Parypa on guitar and Rob Lind on tenor sax; with Ricky Lynn Johnson (of The Wailers) on drums and Don Wilhelm (of The Daily Flash) on bass and vocals. The hype and word of mouth from that performance was so great that the band has experienced an overload of request to play shows and tour. I'm not so sure how the band feels about this. I don't think they're in the traveling mood and after so many years apart, I'm sure they've learned to live without it. On the fan side however...we've stumbled upon a chance at redemption. Of all the bands I never saw and figured I never would, The Sonics would be sweet indeed. The Sonics will be playing two sold out shows in London on March 21st and 23rd. Beyond that...who knows? Hopefully they'll be effected by the huge importance of their reunion and feel responsible for giving this to the people. At the very least, a Seattle show seems natural. Bumbershoot?

th very least.
