John Reis for Rock & Roll President
Step 1: Create Executive Position for Rock & Roll Oversight & Decision Making Step 2: Appoint and tirelessly campaign for the only qualified candidate - John Reis
John Reis, genius and all-around solid guy, the common denominator in both watermark circa 90's, San Diego based rock/punk bands, "Rocket From the Crypt" and "Drive Like Jehu", and later, "Hot Snakes", is by far and away the only guy I've known to demonstrate unerring instinct and motivation to keep driving rock & roll fast and forward. In the content of his character and his work, I believe the man to be flawless.
Hardly forgotten, and entirely relevant, John Reis was of course in "Pitchfork", revolutionary post hardcore band that without fail is witnessed among the influences consistently with the acclaimed and the contemporary.
Somebody needs to have some authority in the ever increasing chaos of rock & roll. Somebody needs to be able to say, "Hey - Stop that", or in the reverse, "Hey - Go for it". He's the only person with the experience, insight, foresight, and instinct. To this day. Granted, governing such a large and unruly nation of musicians and noise makers is indeed a daunting proposition, again, I believe only John Reis has the organizational skills, the common sense, the history and the potential to manage it gracefully.
I've always been sure, but his newest landslide of greatness, "The Night Marchers", clinches it. Debut release "See you in Magic" is gi-normously catchy, moving, timeless, and a zillion more glowing adjectives. But of course, the revelation of legitimate greatness is in the the live show - transfixing, compelling, magnetic, relentless...ridiculous.
John Reis, ladies and gentlemen. Always complemented with equally and uniquely gifted band members demonstrating unparalled musical and performance prowess, which just goes to show, right?
If we are indeed the Rock & Roll people, John Reis is our leader. Knowing full well he's a busy guy, not to mention pretty self-effacing in manner, it's more than likely he'd politely decline the offer, but no matter. JOHN REIS for Rock & Roll President.
