Cat Coward
I don't know anyone who doesn't love the voice of Cat Power. Its smooth like butter and rich as chocolate and i am most certainly a fan. A few years ago when she released her critically acclaimed record "The Greatest" every article publicizing the release focused primarily on Marshall's recent stint in rehab. She claimed to now be living a happy and sober life and had thrown out her old ways. Marshall's old ways included having freak outs, break downs, and tantrums on stage in front of fans. It seemed everyone had a different crazy Cat Power story to tell. I of course was dying to see for myself what all the fuss was about. So when i heard she was coming to town i jumped at the opportunity to go. I didn't have too high expectations now that she was sober. I have this theory that intoxication and creation go hand in hand. Cat Power was drinking whiskey and popping pills when she created her masterpiece "The Greatest". Amy Winehouse got her heart broken, threw back a couple bottles and gave birth to the universally appealing "Back to Black". And over in the rap world Eminem was dropping acid and chewing on mushrooms when he created the best record of his career "The Marshall Mathers LP". I wanted nothing more than for Miss Marshall to prove me wrong. I fully support and encourage sober living but the combination of fucked up artists creating beautiful music is something that i've noticed and couldn't deny. I wanted her to take the stage and leave the audience in aw. This did not happen. I was only mildly impressed with her performance.
