Go see live music......why? Any good band suggestions?
Back in the late late 80's and when I became "of age" in the early 90's, I used to go see anything I could. Sometimes I would see 10 bands a month and most of them were actually good. Even most of the local stuff. Bands like The Fallouts, Steel Wool, The Umen and so many others. They were just all pretty rad. Hazel, Sage.....I could go on but I don't remember most of them. At any rate, it's scary going out any more because as I get older, I seem to take less risks. Has music gotten worse here? Or am I just getting to be an old boring cheap bastard? Not long ago I saw a band called The Loving Thunder along with Triumph of Lethargy Skinned Alive til Death. It was interesting and kind of amazing. I noticed that there weren't many people there and it was a little sad. Maybe other people aren't taking risks either? I don't know. Does anyone else find themselves not going out to see live music as much? Is it because you're busy raising kids, working and discovering television? Or do most bands lose your interest quickly? I really want to get out more, but so far, I only go out of my way to see bands that I know I'm safe seeing. And then there's the venue issue. I saw Neurosis at El Corazone almost a year ago and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen (one of my favorite bands as well), but then recently when I saw them at Neumos, it just wasn't the same dynamic. The last 2 songs blew me away, but the energy was just so much different.

If it can't see you, eat it!

Yeah, it's sucky to say, but I don't get out to see live music that much anymore. I'm busy as hell with life, work, family, and making music of my own. Plus I work in Seattle, but live in Renton, which means I already spend at least 10 hours a week driving to and from the city. I definitely don't want to turn around and head back on a Monday - Friday, and Saturdays just seem to fill up.

So yeah, I think it has to be something fairly safe or highly recommended to get me out of the house. :(

Go see Future Fossils, Trip Like Animals, Vibrant Society. Some are a bit spacey\grungy, classic rock, and metal all twisted up. I love these bands and they are all friends and cool people. I'd say that they are all some of the best and most original bands in Seattle right now. All others try to be like Tool and that sucks.
