This band is ULTRA (violet that is!!)
Ultraviolet Sound, a band from Los Angeles, California, has really started to own the dancefloor. They have got club go-ers screaming alone or in the club to their songs from their new record OCD (Obsessive Complusive Dancing!). One thing is for sure when you hear this band, their unique, fun sound will infect your ears and legs and make you DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!
How did the Ultraviolet Sound Start? Where did you get the idea for the name?
I (Sarah) was living in New York City and I met Evil Eyez on the dancefloor...literally. We started hanging out everyday and writing songs and dancing and tearing up the streets. There was a studio available to us in LA so we picked up and moved out to LA and found a grungy looking rock god name Brad playing his guitar on the street...we picked him up and took him in to the studio and the tri-force of UVS began!! I've been obsessed with the word ULTRAVIOLET since Clockwork Orange and from a strange, androgynous character in Andy Warhols factory days...but the name is basically neon light and sound...something we want to eminate from everybodies stereo.
Who writes the lyrics? Where do you get most of that inspiration?
I (Sarah) mostly write the lyrics. I am inspired immensely by pop culture and society's obsession with celebrity and the media. I am a huge fan of modern and post modern art...I go to exhibits any chance I get. Film, fashion, icons, decades, extremists...I am inspired from so much really and lyrics just come first as thoughts.
What sparked the song out of Control? It's really, well...Violent, haha.
I had a photo shoot and left the photo studio in my outfit which was, let's just say, tight! and literally every gross guy in New York City was lurping at me and being really nasty...some even saying crude things...I really wanted to tell them all to F**K OFF!! when I got to the studio that night I just stared writing about it and it turned into OUT OF CONTROL!!
Do you have any musicians/artists that majorly influence your sound?
UVS is inspired from so many different genres and artists. I think that is a huge part in what makes us truly unique...we draw from all of our influences. Blondie, CSS, Yelle, Robyn, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Peaches, Crookers, Madonna, Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, Velvet Underground, Mstrkrft, and sooooooo many more I could literally write for galaxies!
What do you think the biggest hit you have out now is? Why?
I think Dead on the Dancefloor is no doubt our "hit"...whatever that means!! I think people relate to the song and its meaningful and uplifting at the same time. We are making a video for it now with an amazing director so watch for it soon!!
What was the first song you guys did as a group? And where?
It was actually a song from our new record called Babyz...we really collaborated on that song, lyrically and conceptually. We wrote it in Vegas with an insane DJ from Paris, Dorion.
You're about to enter the studio, are you excited for it? Any song titles you can leak for us?
We are always in the studio...constantly writing/producing and being weirdos. We are currently working on a cover of a Larry Tee song called OOH I LIKE IT...its gonna be the
hotness!!
How was it to work in the Studio with Jeffree Starr?
It was awesome...Jeffree is a classic person and UVS hearts him. We are working on a new track at the moment actually...coming out soon!
Whats the best part of touring for you? Are there any funny stories you have?
The best part of touring is definitely meeting new fans and playing cities we have never been. I love it so much. In Salt Lake City people were crazy amazing!!!! So crazy that some even got NAKED on the dancefloor during our show...seriously.
You guys are on the road right now, how is this tour going for you guys? What city has been the most fun?
This most recent tour has been amazing. We have met so many new fans and made so many new fans at the same time! We loved San Antonio, Tucson and Salt Lake City...we had great shows there!!!!
Do you guys have any personal favorite song of yours? Why are they?
My personal favorite is 'Dead on the Dancefloor'...it is just autobiographical in a way.
Is there any advice you can offer aspiring musicians and fans?
My advice would be to make sure you love it and your doing it for the right reasons. Listen to your gut and NEVER EVER EVER STOP!!
