Prince J's Per Diem: Tour Recap - Medford, PDX, Tacoma
per diem - Pronunciation:\(ˌ)pər-ˈdē-əm, -ˈdī-\
Function: adverb
Etymology: Medieval Latin
Date: 1520
by the day, for each day
This recap is a bit overdue but nonetheless contains information that many of you may find useful, or at the very least, somewhat entertaining.
So here's the overview. My band (Maldroid) went on the road earlier this year with our good friends (also from Oakland) -- The Phenomenauts, who were headlining, and our new buddies -- The AKA's, who were main support. Entitled "For All Mankind Tour 2008" we embarked on a 5 1/2 week, 35-date journey across this vast land of ours. We hit most of the major U.S. markets with stops in Portland OR, Cleveland OH, New York City, Austin TX and Hollywood CA to name a few. Nearly all of the shows were all ages.
I'll break down each stop with City, Venue, Booking info (if available), Deuceability (1 flush being the bathroom from Saw, 10 flushes being Elvis' personal gold standard) and Summary (with pictures!). Enjoy!
Part 1. Tour Kickoff

Departure from Richmond, CA early in the morning. Everyone grabbed their bunks and received keys and laminates. Bus buddies were assigned in hopes of avoiding that horrible inconvenience of having to turn around and pick up the guy(s) we left in the last city. On we go...

Johnny B's
City: Medford, OR
Venue: Johnny B's - 35 S. Bartlett St. Medford, Oregon (541)773-1900
Booking: Please call. Send CD's or promo packs to address above. No EPK's.
Deuceability: 5 flushes. Your average room, similar to a small town restaurant facility.
Summary: Ah, first night on the road. Feels good. Johnny B's is a small place but plenty big for this small town. The show went well even though the stage was super small for us. Surprise, surprise! We witness friend and Superfan, Annamarie, on her home turf! The PBR flowed freely. I got into a water gun fight with an unknown assailant that left me temporarily blind due to the fact that it was vodka, not water, in the gun! Don't remember getting in my bunk...
City: Tacoma, WA
Venue: Hell's Kitchen - 3829 6th Ave Tacoma WA 98406
Booking: flash@hellskitchenonline.com http://www.myspace.com/hellskitchentacoma
Deuceability: 4 flushes. 1 stall, door doesn't lock. Get there early and hit the Starbucks down the street.
Summary: Great stage. One of the first of many great female sound...girls(?). Meals were excellent, the local brew was good and the staff very accomodating. Plus a bunch of pinball machines!

Satyricon
City: Portland, OR
Venue: Satyricon - 125 NW 6th Ave Portland, OR 97209
Booking: Satyriconpdx@aol.com
Deuceability: 3 flushes. 1 stall with a curtain. How bad do you need to go buddy?
Summary: I love Portland. We woke up in Portland outside of one of the members of the Epoxies home. I immediately called my old friend Vera from my hometown and had her pick me and my bandmate Sean up at the bus. Some breakfast and a shower later and everything was good again. We took a drive up toward Mt Tabor and looked out over the city. Got dropped off at the bus stop and headed downtown with some time to kill...

19 and 20 heading Downtown

Portland's Chinatown Gates
Had to check out one of my man Bourdain's previous stops.

Voodoo Doughnuts

Maple and Bacon Doughnut

Sean with a Tang and Marshmallow Doughnut
We finally got down to the venue and loaded in. Had a garden burger and fries (mmm...crinkle cut). The show was packed! Great turnout, lots of familiar faces all around. Nice staff. Can't wait to get back to this place.
Next stop: Idaho.
