Happy May Day!!!
May Day has taken on new meaning in recent years - what has traditionally been a day of action to celebrate the past and present of working peoples' struggle now also spotlights the mistreatment and abuse of immigrant workers in the United States.
There are two events on Thursday, May 1st that are of particular interest, in Oakland and San Francisco:
SF: San Francisco Workers United Without Borders Rally @ Dolores Park starting 2:00PM, with a march to Civic Center starting at 3:30PM, and a rally with musical performances starting at 5:00PM.
More Information
OAK: Immigrants' Rights Rally @ Fruitvale BART Plaza starting 3:00PM, with a march down International Boulevard toward City Hall (14th/Broadway) at 4:00PM, and a rally at City Hall at 6:00PM.
More Information
See you at The Civic Center!
Whether you realize it or not, labor is still THE most important issue that we must deal with as Americans - documented, legal, or otherwise - and as citizens of this world. The fact is that workers' rights are NOT granted to all who work for their living and it is the labor of the oppressed worker which grants control to those who seek to perpetuate the systems of racism, classism, sexism, imperialism, and economic colonialism.
I fully understand how jaded and hopeless we can get, but if we all come together and show our support for our working brothers and sisters, we can make a loud, clear statement that there IS compassion, that there IS hope, and that we do NOT support or condone the injustices perpetrated by our government and by unscrupulous business interests.
Get out on Thursday, May 1st, and tell the world that you support your fellow workers.
