Music scene in San Francisco???
hello, im from Los Angeles and I am planning on attending UC berkeley in the Fall and i have been an active musician since i was 13. I was wondering if itll be easy for me to get into the music scene in san Francisco. I play guitar, i can read music, i play by ear, i play classical guitar, jazz, blues, latin music, rock, metal, anything. i also play congas, timbales, drums, piano, bass, sing, compose music, do sound engineering. so if anyone...could give me some advice as to what i should do...stay here in LA or go to san fran...cause i have my rock en espanol band here and i wanted to know if theres anyone whos interested to jam with..possibly do something serious..like record and tour...

San Francisco has a killer music scene. Every night of the week there's something going on. And unlike LA you can make it to just about any show you want to for no more than a $15 cab ride (usually under $10). I don't play, but there's so many bars that host live music that you'll have no trouble finding a place to gig.

Yeah, it depends on your choice in music. There's many great nightspots for live music, and the clubs usually have good DJs turning. You can find great places just by doing a search on the official San Fran boards, which has categories for all types of music and spots. If that doesn't turn up something you like, there's great places everywhere for you to just cruise and scope yourself.
I remember back in the day when we had Club Fresh, which was amazing for live rock. There was one band in particular that was especially good, named DF. The amazing thing about them was they had great music, but the members were all kids! The first time I saw them was back in 99', and while they looked about in their mid to late teens, a friend of mine who had seen them before told me the lead singer was only 10 years old! I was shocked. I wonder what ever happened to those kids? They had talent, and the lead singer had such a commanding presence that I was sure there was no way she was a child. Am I the only one who remembers these guys?
Anyway, I'll stop going on now, I'm starting to feel old.

Lol, I remember DF. The lead singer was Amy K, and she was my main competition in our music school. We had an insane rivalry when we were little. DF broke up when she moved away about 6-7 years ago. Now that she's out of the business, I can admit that she had a great voice, and she was probably my favorite female singer of that time. The drummer, Nathan Takai passed away a few years back too, I heard it was suicide, which is a shame because not only was he a cutie, he was accepted into Julliard because he was crazy talented with his composition. The guitarist and bassist are still here in Soma tho. I'm surprised that not too many people remember them, because they were set to go fully pro back then. Now that they are gone, I kinda miss having them around. They had great music and the lyrics were well written. Here's to the lost legends in the making of DF.
