Ridin' the Short Bus to LA
My band was just invited to play down in LA. We're toying with the idea of renting a bus/RV/whatever and getting some of our faithful fans to roadtrip down with us. The only problem is that we haven't found any options that pencil out - as dedicated as our fans are, none of them are going to pay $100 to see us play.
Anyone out there pulled something like this off before?

RE: Ridin' the Short Bus to LA
There was a band from LA that ended up bussing their fans to gig up in SF when they played at Bottom of the Hill last year. Everyone was wondering where all of the blondes showed up from. I actually asked who picked up the tab to rent a bus and their manager informed that someone's dad picked up the tab. Cool idea, but probably not an option for most bands...
I think a better idea than trying to bus your fans from place to place would be to develop a relationship with a local band in LA. They should promote you to their fans when you're in LA. Likewise, when you do a local show up in SF, you should market for them. There are ways to do some inexpensive promotion around gigs and this is a good way to build a fan base in different cities. You can also keep costs down if you guys can provide a crash pad when the LA band is up here and visa versa....
