The deal is it's always good to have a backup plan. An alternate means.
A plan B.

One needs to be able to support oneself, after all.

If the band thing doesn't work.

Yeah, I play in a band. That's what I want to do.
Lights, stages, fans. That's what I want. That's for me. The deal is, I've known that that's what I've wanted since the first time I picked up a guitar, at age 13.

But I'm not there yet, and there's no guarantee that I'll ever get there. That's something else I knew when I first grabbed up that guitar.

I still have to make a living while I'm plugging away at my dreams. My non-guaranteed hopes. My non-refundable years.

The deal is like every aspiring musician, I have to have a day-job.

That's why I went to an accelerated two-year College and got myself a BA in Graphic Design.
"Expressions College for the Digital Arts"; that's what the sign says.

How it should read is "You Should Have Gone to a Four-Year University in NY or LA", cause that's where all the good jobs are.

I can't move to the fine city of Los Angeles or the great state of New York. My band is here and like I said, it's what I want to do.

So I get by, with a job here and a gig there. I've always had a job since I was 15. I've been an Underage Pizza Boy, a Patio Furniture Salesman For Yuppies and a Dating Service Telemarketer For The Elderly. I've been a Coffee Bitch For Minimum Wage and a Sandwich Whore For Less. With that fine degree, I've been a Logo Designer, a Video Editor and a Food Label Designer. Thanks to that wonderful BA, I was able to obtain a position in the lucrative, highly competitive industry of Color-Correcting Photos Of Nude Transsexual Escorts.

My current job title is Senior Executive in Charge of Answering the Phone for Chinese People. Their deal is they sell pearl jewelry online, out of a posh apartment with a view. Their English isn't that great, what with them being pure Chinese and all. They needed a reassuring American male voice to field customer concerns via their convenient 1-800 number.

The key to making complete strangers trust you over the phone is to speak in a friendly, confident tone.

One thing I know is that I will do everything in my power to not end up stuck behind a desk living the American Dream for the rest of my life.

That's the deal.

*with respect to Chuck Palahniuk

i ride bart alot

(in the bay area there is a network of trains called the bay area rapid transit)

it is often very crowded, and there are no seats, so i stand.

if it is crowded and i am sitting and a woman gets on the train, i always offer my seat to her.

many men do not.

if you are a healthy man and a woman, elderly person, disabled person, or child gets on the bart train and you do not offer her/him your seat.... shame on fucking you dude.

i stand and look at dickwads sitting on their fat asses while women stand and it pisses me off

i'm not saying that women are in any way helpless or unable to stand, but it's just the honorable thing to do as a man to offer a lady your seat.
