Shanna Waters
Shanna Waters writes catchy and inspired pop songs of the finest quality. Her best songs are as good as Oasis, the easier songs of The Velvet Underground, Inspiral Carpets and Beatles, to name a few "comparisons", which shall only give an impression of which type of pop we are speaking here. While her current recordings do not have the best equipment available, the songs and her way of performing them still shine through this and indicate what the future of this amazing talent promises.

Sometimes it's not good to encourage someone who has hardly any talent. Establishing false hopes is totally unfair. I don't see any unique approach, neither the songwriting skills nor the voice is exceptional. It's better to tell someone that he/she may enjoy making music without a real chance to ever earn a living with it. That sounds cruel, but it's better that way than telling someone he/she is the incarnation of John Lennon...

I agree with SomeVapourTrails! And I do remember it's the second time you did sent me over to her page with a review: Both times I was surprised in a really bad way....

Hey you know, I know I'm not as good as John Lennon.k? My lyrics are fine, and you know maybe if I even had a decent well, Anything! I wouldn't sound as bad. Tibii says too much of me and you guys could be a little more sensitive to a girl with a fuckin dream.

This isn't an Olympic competition anyway. I used the comparison primarily to describe the style of songwriting. And honestly, if someone would ask me which artists have the same ability as The Beatles to write simple, beautiful, encouraging and entertaining pop songs, I would name 3 famous ones: Duran Duran, The Inspiral Carpets and Oasis. And I would name 2 (still) unknowns: Andy Brazendale and Shanna Waters. There are other musicians I like as much with different styles, e.g. more tricky or rough sounds. But as far as easiness and simplicity in a positive sense are concerned, of those I'm aware of nobody beats the 5 acts named above in Beatlish talent.

@ Shanna Waters
If we are sensitive and don't tell you the truth, you'll actually consider yourself very talented and try to take part in competitions like American Idol and everybody will be laughing about you.

Haha, you don't count, Jostel, you're her competition. I know what I like, and a good song is a good song is a good song, whether recorded in a top class professional studio or recorded on an mp3 player. By the way, my real life sister is a very good musician, she plays about 20 instruments and can play very tricky compositions, but she is unable to write a good song, as opposed to this lady.

If I may, I would like to say a few words in regards to what seems to have forged a divide. I too went to the young girls website and sadly I would have moved on and I certainly don't want to get into why I am not a fan as it is moot at this point BUT this doesn't mean that someone else might not like her music i.e. Tibii. We all have different tastes and clearly Tibii found something in this girl that he liked. With that said, SVT does make an excellent point, comparing her to Oasis and the Beatles is a bit premature and perhaps even harmful as her talent still needs to be honed. That is a huge accomplishment which is usually reserved for someone with far more talent and experience. It is unfortunate that a 16 year old girl who definitely needs years of practice and guidance, created such turmoil amongst a brilliant group of people!!!

for the love of god people you know I'm almost certain I'm not the only one that sucks balls OKAY??? so it's not that big of a deal there is no need to be so freakin hung up about it. why don't don't you guys go and tell someone else that they suck and leave me the fuck alone okay and one more thing you guys aren't some fucking "great critics" and I'll be honest no one gives a shit. So go do something with your life like make your own music instead of hating on mine at least I'm making music (rahter you call it that or not) Instead of hating on someone who's trying.

Well the Oasis and Beatle guys once also were 16. Did you ever hear the VERY early recordings by The Beatles, e.g. on those anthologies? It is quite hard to hear the music at all, and their songwriting skills were not good at that time, with a few exceptions. In that sense Shanna is even better now than how the Beatles were at 16.

Christine, my system works different. Being some kind of an old punk I don't care that much about recording quality, musical experience, being in need of guidance or whatever. I mean if you got a time machine and got back to 1975 and tell the Sex Pistols or The Damned about musical experience or them being in need of guidance, I can imagine what kind of reaction you or SVT would get from them. If you don't believe me go and ask this guy:

Accordingly I can only say that Shanna's songs have beautiful melodies and cool lyrical ideas and an indeed naive but unbeatable musical vitality in them, and I wouldn't like to miss that for the sake of experience or her being guided. In the same sense as I would not want to have missed the Beatles' Love Me Do or Cry For A Shadow and them directly jumping to Strawberry Fields and Eleanor Rigby (as much as I do love Fields and Rigby). And I would not have wanted to miss the early Sex Pistols or The Damned for the sake of them waiting for experience and guidance in 1975 or 1976. Guidance by whom anyway????
