We all hate it. People still do it... bleh. Anyways. I just saw some spam on my friend's band's comment wall and it really annoyed me.

Since I work on this site I can and will do something about profile spam. But, first, I need to ask you guys a question... What do you consider SPAM?

Here's an example: Do you consider "dude check out my band" as SPAM? How bout if the artist leaving the comment plays your fav. genre of music?

So lemme know what you consider spam and ill try n make sure to get rid of it.

Below this pile of text there's a video of Gibson's new self tuning guitar. On the surface the concept is pretty cool. But really, is it just overkill and lame?

I'll ramble on but check out the video and see what you think. First off... The guitar can tune itself to multiple tunings: E, drop D, A etc. Now, I dunno, maybe i'm a fucking guitar nerd but any "big" change in tuning, to me, means you need a different gauge of strings. I could NOT imagine using 9's and being in standard tuning then switching to anything but drop D. Like, if you go down to C etc (like Avenged Sevenfold and that crowd) you're 9's are gonna flip and flop and sound like total shit.

So - In my opinion this is worthless for extreme tuning changes. I don't see how thats even practical w/o changing strings.

OK - so maybe this thing's just fine if you're sticking to 1 tuning or 2 tunings with a small change - like a 1/2 step drop on the low string. But, at that point do you really need the guitar to tune itself? A Boss tuning pedal on the floor would work just fine and has worked just fine for years! Ya, some people use a rack tuner etc - even better - but same difference.

Next... The tuning machines on this guitar turn themselves to correct tuning issues. OK - but what if you want to change them. Why would you change them? Cuz, they may suck balls. My Les Paul doesn't really like being in tune, maybe yours is better, but i'm on the verge of changing em out for tuning machines that actually hold like the Schaller locking machines.

Anyways... now, the "master knob" thing that you use for tuning etc is where the neck pickup's tone knob is/was. Now where's that knob? Do they now have a master tone knob? This may not matter much to most people - but it could annoy some.

Anyways - check out the video and see what you think....

This may be the start of something cool but I have doubts regarding whether its really solving a problem or not. We're all used to tuners and they work easily and work just fine. Also - they're not gonna render tuners obsolete... ever. Our other guitars still need tuners, so we're not gonna throw 'em away. What's next, built in overdrive pedals? Then, delay, chorus etc...

I can't stop thinking of reasons why this is kinda dumb and/or just a fancy waste of time/money:

How good is the built in tuner? What if it breaks? Can you get components for repairs or do you have to pray Gibson covers it under warranty and gets the guitar back to you in a decent timeframe? Whats the upcharge?

Bla - anyways... I vote "no". They should have spent the R&D money on something like, oh i dunno, hiring a QC department for their finished products.

Ya, I still hate Fender but that's another story. Anyways... this guitar stared life as a Mexican Telecaster in 1996. I bought the fucker using my summer job money for $311 at GC in SF.

I learned how to play and wrote my first song on this guitar. So its served me really damn well. A while ago the little bastard was unplayable. The hardware was rusting, i'd rewired it a couple times, the neck was ok - but not good, the frets were fucked, it had its 3rd set of pickups, the plate was falling off cuz the screw holes were mangled etc. Anyways - he was in bad shape. So, i figured he needed a pick-me-up.

The first revamp included the following:

1) new neck from warmoth
2) new schaller locking tuners
3) new gotoh bridge
4) new duncan, texas special, pickups

Not bad. He became a good player. it finally sounded and felt like a proper tele. but that was the problem... it sounded like a tele - which i like BUT; i hate the bridge pup by itself. when playing clean the bridge tele sound isnt for me. Yes, i know its a huge part of what makes a tele - but its not my thing. my fav sound from the tele is position 2 w/ both pups on.

So - a couple weeks ago i decided its time to mod it again! So, now what? Well, the first thing i bought was a Dremel. This tele needed a humbucker in the bridge! a humbucker that does coil splitting well, So, after chatting it up with my buddies who know way too much about guitars and guitar parts it was decided that the pup to get was the Steve Morse signature bridge pup by Dimarzio. Why? Of all the humbuckers out there its sound while coil split is "better". Also, Morse's pickup is designed to have a mini bit of tele flavor given the fact that 20 years ago he played a modified to hell Tele.

OK... so on saturday i busted out the Dremel and routed a bunch of wood to make room for a humbucker. Next, my pops and I trimmed up the pickguard to make it fit better (long story). After all that we soldered the fucker up and it was ready to roll. All that was left was to put it together, string it up, set it up and rock.

So, the guitar has NOTHING original on it except for the body. The plates are all new, the knobs are baddass cuz theyre made of water buffalo horns, new pickups (including a splitable bucker) and new neck.

this fucker is a player. Dan loves it, i love it, jeff loves it... so in my opinion ive done good.

Anyways... im taking it to a tech today for a good setup. Ive got it set up OK but im getting fret outs in the highs. I couldnt get that buzz to disappear. God bless, the music man instruments for being sooooooo easy to set up. Anyways. the truss rod adjustment's at the heel which is annoying as fuck. So, i give up and im gonna have a tech do it. otherwise its set up w/ super fast action and besides the fret outs at the 17th and higher im really happy. Thru my new Marshall JVM its amazing.

I have this Les Paul. Its a 1978 Les Paul Pro Deluxe. I've recently been considering selling it to buy some other stuff so I thought I'd learn about it, ask some questions and see what its worth. So... there's a few things about this one in particular that some in the know have told me its a rare beast.

1) ebony fretboard
2) its a Gold Top and not may pro Deluxe's are
3) its got P90s and, again, not many pro deluxes do. humbuckers and mini buckers are way more common
4) its in great condition.

So in the end, this guitar could fetch $3k+. pretty crazy, i had no idea.

Turns out 1970's Les Pauls are gaining in reputation. They were inxnayed a while ago but now they're getting popular. Why? im guessing cuz people can't afford 60's Les Pauls and the hunt of older Les Pauls has driven these prices up.

Anywho. I'm gonna shove this thing under my bed for 10 years. LoL
