We all hate it. People still do it... bleh. Anyways. I just saw some spam on my friend's band's comment wall and it really annoyed me.

Since I work on this site I can and will do something about profile spam. But, first, I need to ask you guys a question... What do you consider SPAM?

Here's an example: Do you consider "dude check out my band" as SPAM? How bout if the artist leaving the comment plays your fav. genre of music?

So lemme know what you consider spam and ill try n make sure to get rid of it.

Hey Arin, I'm the hottest shit on this SIGHT and you be missing out if you don't check out my amazing beatz that I produced, wrote and sang myself. Oh and while you are checking out my hot beat tittled "Kick yo F'in Face In", also check out "Rimz be Spinnin" that I just posted today. ~tHaNkS

The above would be considered spam by yours truly.

Ok, I think it's ok if someone "invites" you to check out their music and making the comment somewhat personal and not just "check me cause I'm HOT".

I think Miss Bella's comments sum up mine. I am so glad to see the site moving forward and getting better.

phatduckk, here are my views about spam:

1. It will be difficult to "judge" what is spam and what is "fair content" in many cases. I don't think fuzz management/admin should be in the human intervention business except in the clear-cut cases [you know it when you see it] upon random sampling.

2. You folks have tons of stuff to do and may not have time to "read everything" in any case to "decide" what is spam and what is OK.

3. In the "other than clear-cut" cases, the platform probably needs a "spam voting system" [say, 75% threshold of thumbs down over thumbs up with a minimum of, say, five thumbs down votes calling something "spam"[yes/no], or some such audience filtering device].

4. In addition to giving the "page owner" or blog initiator the option to delete the Spam, you might give him/her the option to "freeze out" the spammer from sending comments to your profile page or blogs in the future. That is, in addition to the existing platform option to preselect those who can communicate with you [if you choose to be selective], you give the person being spammed the option to determine that they do not wish to receive comments from designated persons [subject to changing one's mind later or, maybe, subject to a time factor, opening up comments again after one-week, one month, whatever].

5. Most folks seem to grow out of the "kid stuff" [often new artists just learning how to navigate the web who use the site out of naive enthusiasm about their music and their new-found internet toy]. Someone may just need to send a "quick message" to these folks to be more selective and to personalize their comments and requests. Maybe, you can have a "spam-warning" button for use by the "page owner" to send a "bomb" back to the new user/spammer to follow some common sense protocol and after someone gets a fixed number of "spammer bombs" within a fixed number of hours, he gets a canned sterner warning from the site "webmaster" that if he/she persists, their account will be deleted.

6. I have a sense that, for the most part, the spam problem will resolve itself as the fuzz community's self-policing efforts take hold and create the necessary culture of respect.

Wrote a blog about the same issues some days ago:
http://www.fuzz.com/fan/DifferentStars/blog/entry/STOP-SPAMMING-THE-SPAMMERS-PLEASE

If you read the comments you will see that fuzz is working on a "mark as spam" button.

I guess good news for all of us!!!

On Facebook, if you copy and paste the same thing to more than a couple people, you get a warning that you'll be blocked from the site. There's a proper way to go about letting your "friends" know about stuff, and an improper way, which is pasting bulletin-like shit on people's profiles.

I like the randomness of spam. The idea of it is good. the ability to freely express. sucks that people get software to send messages to bagillions of people at once and the human factor is removed but, spam, is really a good thing. we are all old enough and smart enough to delete things we dont want to read, buy or believe.

other than mega spam for profit, pasting bulletin like material on people comments is like putting up flyers on telephone poles. Its a way our culture has communicated for years. Its community talking . Its good .

But i also like graffitti because it tells a story about the person . I like to know what is happening in my friends heads and so I listen to those subtle dynamics . And as an artist I like to understand people and the workings of society and the world and so I think that the things people say and are interested enough to speak up on and call out, are the things I want to hear and listen to and take note of.

So I say speak out, spam my boards and pages. What do you think ?!! What inspires you enough to speak up !
