blog Pics from Maldroid's Not So Silent Night Show at the Bill Graham Civic
Once again, I'm really late with this post, but since Miss Bella won't stop bugging me about the pics (taken from my crappy phone), here they are...

We showed up at 6:00 for the Maldroid show to find out that the line that went around the block and up Market Street. We were screwed as the band's start time was 6:15. There was no way we were going to be able to get in to see the band play if we had to wait in line. However, one of the Fuzz crew, Daniel C, saved the day and did a great job getting 5 of us through a side entrance so we could avoid the crowd. Thanks man.

By the time we got to the band, they were just about to go on stage. I know many of them had not slept for days in anticipation of playing the event. Ryan was pacing, but seemed generally calm, but Hugo could not even speak he was so excited. It was good to see the guys pumped after having worked their butts off in preparation for the night. Generally, things seemed pretty mellow prior to the show, but then At EXACTLY 6:15, there was a flurry of activity and the band went up the ramp to start their set.

The band opened with "Uncontrollable Urge" by Devo... "NICE," I thought and the crowd seem to jump off their asses for the band. I couldn't really see the floor from where I was standing because of some damn curtains, but from the level of screaming, it seemed that the crowd enjoyed what the band was doing.

It's always really tough to be the opening band at any show, but it seemed especially tough due to the size of the venue. I would guess that Bill Graham Civic holds about 5,000 people. The last time I was there I saw Pearl Jam play.

Maldroid then went directly into a new (and unreleased tune) "Yellow 52" and the show really took off. It was really fun to see the guys up on such a large stage - their matching jackets, Ryan's antics with that spinning microphone resembling some medieval weaponry, and that massive guitar sound.

There were still people filing in when the band finished the set, but they played like they were in front of a packed venue. Well done guys.

Notes on capacity: Bill Graham Civic holds 9000-10,000. Show was sold out. it went from about half-3/4 full in the time we played. Pretty fucking awesome! We've all been in bands that have played big shows, but i think this one takes the cake. whoa. glad someone got SOME pics! thanks man!

And thank fucking everything we ran into you guys! If not...we would have been screwed up the ass pretty bad. And that's even a bit too graphic for me!

But yeah, amazing for sure.

Good times - I'm still trying to find the video, but I'm not sure where it went... er, the video of the show, not Bella's graphic descriptions...
