Maureen suggested that I check out this article by David Byrne about various options that artists (both emerging and established) have in this rapidly changing industry. Check it out at http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/magazine/16-01/ff_byrne. I think it's a great read and something that every artist on the site should digest. For what it's worth, here's the comment I posted at Wired: First of all, I really enjoyed your article and I think that it does a great job of...
Tonite I had one of those moments when I wasn't sure whether: 1) to give up guitar forever with the realization that I suck and will never achieve even the slightest semblance of a real player or 2) to spend the next 4 days (which we have off) to hit the wood shed and practice my chops for hours on end until my calluses fall off... I'm sure many of you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about - it's that weird place between being pissed off that you will never be as good as...
Once again, I'm really late with this post, but since Miss Bella won't stop bugging me about the pics (taken from my crappy phone), here they are... We showed up at 6:00 for the Maldroid show to find out that the line that went around the block and up Market Street. We were screwed as the band's start time was 6:15. There was no way we were going to be able to get in to see the band play if we had to wait in line. However, one of the Fuzz crew, Daniel C, saved the day and...
Thanks to all of you that made it to the Fuzz ROCK THE HALLS event last night at the Hotel Utah. Jen's master plan was flawless with Daniel, Scott, and Kristen pitching in. The bands were awesome - The Ghost of Curtis, Death Valley High, and The Hot Challenge put on a great show. Also, thanks to Keith of the Hotel Utah for making it happen. The place was packed and the booze flowed freely. My head still hurts, but it was worth it. I hope someone got some pictures, but it was good to...
I'm debating whether going out to Cannes in January for MIDEM is a worthwhile trip. I've reached out to several folks about their thoughts and it's been split fairly evenly. My favorite comment I received from someone who has been going for several years was: "MIDEM is good if you do MIDEM Net…its more digital than MIDEM....the regular MIDEM event is a chummy affair of Polish and Icelandic sub-publishers meeting their partners from Latvia and India…or looking for new...
I'm ashamed to admit that I had never heard of Dan Stiles before checking out a recent exhibition on Fillmore Street here in San Francisco. Upon getting invited, instead of blatantly admitting my ignorance by asking, "Who is Dan Stiles???," I did a little research on him. I was surprised to learn that he is the artist of some of the craziest and innovative rock posters. He has designed posters for some great bands including Wilco, Sonic Youth, the Klaxons, Ted Leo, Bright...
