Just a heads up that our band, Independent Orange will be playing this coming Wednesday, May 2nd at 8:30PM at the Make Out Room in San Francisco at 22nd and Mission. Come early to throw back some drinks with us - booze courtesy of Chris Skarakis... I'm serious.
Abigail, Arin, Chris, and Jeff
I had a totally weird conversation with the head of A&R at one of the major labels last week. I had expressed interest in one of the bands that his label dropped due to budget constraints. He was a good guy and felt pretty awful about having to let go so many artists with whom he enjoyed working. We didn't talk specifics, but it seemed like there were dozens of artists that the label released from their contracts. It must be a pretty tough to receive a call as an artist when you learn...
I know I'm late getting this out, but it was great throwin' a few back with some of the Fuzz users last Friday at the Maldroid show at Mezzanine - Uzi, Cameron Obscura, Your Mom, Andrea, to name a few... There were a bunch of the Fuzz folks there as well - Arin, Ian, Ryan, Abigail, Chris, Emilio, Urbano, and Mike (well sort of - tried to sneak Zanne in, but no luck). Here are a couple of shots from the event...
Weird shot of Maldroid setting up
Dr. Urbano - decked out in turd...
We gotta put together a big group to go to the show en masse - even do a tailgater prior to the show... fooze courtesy of buzz, mister occifer. This is gonna be an AWESOME show!
Everyone wish Ry Ry HAPPY B-DAY. I don't know how old he is, but he's got a pretty convincing fake ID... He'll be catching Royalty in Oakland tonight. http://www.fuzz.com/fan/RyRy
Just got back from checking out 3 solid bands at the Rickshaw Stop in SF tonight - The New Trust, Ambulette, and Push to Talk (http://www.fuzz.com/artist/PushToTalk). I got there a little late to meet up with Arin and Ian, who had already made themselves comfortable sitting in one of the rickshaws at the side of the main floor (wish I brought my camera)... The New Trust was already a few tunes in their set. I really enjoyed their music, but I still can't really put my finger on who they...
Man, I'm really enjoying this band from Oakland. I can't put my finger on it, but these guys remind me of the Smiths, the Police, Depeche, and maybe the Outfield all mixed together - perhaps a little Style Council? The tune "Problems" has a really cool bass line with that off-beat "Roxanne" pulse - totally can hear the Andy Summers flavoring... good stuff. These guys can also really pull off complicated groove changes and throw in a few Steely Dan chord changes...
