"Pay Us Not To Sue You" and I'm pissed
I don't blog very often. I guess I don't want to write something unless I feel it's important and an issue that deserves further though or that at least others may find interesting. This time it's because I'm pissed.
Check out this article on TechCrunch that fuzzygroove sent my way: Music Tax Details From Source: “Pay Us Not To Sue You”.
The gist is that Warner Music is proposing a music tax of $5 / month which will serve as a protection racket of sort for ISP's from lawsuits. Of course, Warner is trying to get other labels involved as well. Technically the tax isn't mandatory, but it's your ISP's decision not yours. Don't get me wrong here; I very rarely (if ever) download illegal music and almost always purchase the music of bands I like because I believe in supporting them, but I don't want to be forced to pay more to access the internet so the majors can have another way to bolster their failing business models. Do you?

WHAT? "The rollout plan will hit colleges and universities first, who will simply add the fee to tuition bills so they won’t have to worry about getting dragged into lawsuits." psh, yeah let them try...

@missBella haha, better hope so right, but unless there's an organized movement against it, students won't have much to say - not that this is set in stone, but you can be sure that Warner is going to do it's best to convince colleges and ISPs that this is a good idea.

This would just be a total clusterfuck for all parties involved. Pure stupidity driven by greed. Perhaps I should go read more into this, but thats what I got out of this subject so far...

That does sound like a bunch of BS. Can you really fight/wage a war against WARNER(money for days) and their plot to win over the ISP's,and win, realistically.. not sure of this answer, But with some unheard of kick backs and incentives not mentioned, I might have to bet no...? Then I'm sure complacence will follow, haven't seen the gas prices do anything but go up, people still by gas, go to the pumps, even though we are pissed at the jacks, and all though their was a decrease in percentage, overall we buy, we need gas, we need to get from a to b.... Same train of though might apply.. ?
