I think that I answered this question before, but new visitors [hopefully, to become my Fuzz Friends] keep asking me various versions of it. Here is my answer again for the curious. [I hope it's consistent with my previous ones with just a different slant on it because of what happens to be on my mind today, but, hey, we all evolve as people, right]. Recently, I have been reflecting on the nature of the frontier and how people survive at the cutting edge of everything that is exciting [but dangerous] in our lives.

The objective of my work at thecapitalclinic, which is something that I have been at for quite a few years both in the US and overseas, is to help folks, whom I think of as the "frontier people" [those courageous souls truly breaking ground in the new frontiers of today - new immigrants in search of opportunity, artists pushing out the edge of our poetic sensibilities, start-up businesses, young entrepreneurs with nothing but a dream and tons of energy, the dispossessed, strangers in a strange land], to work out in practical ways how "capital" [in its myriad and mysterious forms] is created. "Capital" [an elusive notion] is essential for survival for those on the frontier. It's not easy or comfortable here, but we choose to live on the frontier for a reason.

The present system of capital formation is disfunctional globally and in every nook and cranny of our planet. That is why I call my place of self-learning and collective encouragement a "clinic". The status quo is unhealthy, but things can get better.

Thanks [to my new Fuzz Friends] for asking this question in our PM exchanges. You remind me to keep repeating my mission from time to time in my public pages as well. It rejuvenates me to pause and think about it anew when I become frustrated with the slow pace of change I see all around us.

Welcome to thecapitalclinic that has found a good home at Fuzz. Let's all enjoy and enrich this place.

Having not read any of his writings myself, I have only a generalized concept of what Proudhon's body of work stands for. [Here is a quick summary - with the usual "wiki-caveats"]

I get the sense that many of us, Proudhon and his current revivalists included, are groping in the dark trying to find out what is the "truth" about the function of "capital" in our society.

I mentioned elsewhere in my blogs that there are essentially three things you can do with capital - (1) create it, (2) exchange it, and (3) store it [this is, of course, Economics 101].

It seems to me that Proudhon focuses on the first function of capital, the process of creation, which is probably the "noblest" function, but one that cannot operate without seamless systemic interaction with the other more mundane but necessary functions.

I agree that Proudhon and the implications of his body of work [as I understand it derivatively] are indeed interesting stuff; and the great points you raise ARE relevant to the work of thecapitalclinic and to Fuzz.

To bring this fascinating subject back to Artists and this site, I would like to put forward the proposition that Artists also [like Proudhon] probably focus too much on just the "noble" aspects of value [and by proxy, capital], that is to say, on "creating" it and not enough on the more mandane aspect of "storing" it or learning how to "exchange" it.

Of course, this has always been the Artists' plight [and why they are always at the frontier]. Artists are so engaged in the process of "creation" at the edge of chaos that they leave to others the less "noble" work of figuring out how to "exchange" the value thus created or how to "store" it. In the process, to inject to some bitter reality to the matter at hand, they get screwed or, because of the purity of their focus, their efforts are never discovered and remain still-born. [Much like the story of Proudhon's life.]

For the first time, the new web-based platforms like Fuzz can give many Artists, who, I think you put your finger on it, are in essence post-modern followers of Proudhon [although most, of course, are not aware of his ground-breaking, but to me overly limiting, ideas of "capital"], the tools they need to do-it-themselves and stop getting screwed.

Maybe even Proudhon, if he were alive today and on Fuzz, could have given more life to his "noble" ideas. Food for thought.

I am trying to avoid all the things that I didn't like about my last company and structure a company from the ground up taking in every detail possible while surrounding ourselves (my wife & I) with experienced, knowledgeable, good character people.

You will be invited to our launch party when it is held at the Mirage in Vegas;-) My wife and I have been visualizing every single step and then doing all the necessary things to bring them into reality. It's actually working.....wow and now I've found out that our marketing, product launch woman's father is an experienced songwriter/producer with a Hollywood recording studio....the karma is unbelievable. I just hope I can keep up this good stream of karmic happenings, I'll visualize, I know, that sounds like bullshit, but it's working, it's really working.

And yes, we've been visualizing where the launch will be and I believe it will be there at the Mirage. I'll continue to keep you posted on this exciting perfume, clothing, jewelry/designer concept/project company.

peace & good karma.....

Industry attempts to monopolize culture in order to make itself appear as a necessity. Instead of what you know and what you do as artists it's become increasingly about who you know and who's "back you scratch". It's good to see deconstruction of this intentional cultural indoctrination. We as artists don't really need the labels as they are now - money hungry behemoths. As artist's realize (thanks to fuzz) that they can have more say in what they do these behemoths will adapt or die off. Thanks for the work on the front line TCC. Reclaiming the culture for the people who actually contribute to it, not just those who profit from it.
