Hey, DD [David Douglas -our faithful and plugged-in Fuzz Reviewer - check him out], I just came across your review of ZAMAN 8's Sukra (Venus) in the "recent activity" tag on the Fuzz Music page. I'm glad you reviewed this piece and share my own opinion about the quality of the work and the group generally - although with a different, but as usual informative, take on it. It reminded me that I committed earlier to review the group myself when I first heard their postings at Fuzz, so here goes.
I totally agree with DD that one must just listen to the music of ZAMAN 8. If it is not "the best music here yet", as DD unreservedly describes it, Zaman 8's Sukra (Venus), as well as their other uploaded pieces, certainly rate highly in the Fuzz constellation. We need to get the group to add some more stuff here and to get the word out to the Fuzz universe of music lovers.
I've got over 20 minutes of their pieces (Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars) in my Music Bank and Fuzz Playlist that give me a whole boatload of sheer listening pleasure, calling for just casual listening or a more concentrated attention to fascinating detail, depending on time and inclination. Their music is well worth playing, whatever the groove you happen to be in. When you have your headset on, the tracks blow you away and the nuance of the instrumentation and arrangements come alive in surprising, stereophonic counterpoint.
Each of their pieces is at the same time complex but somehow integrated and all put together [Jazz/mood/mystical/world/Mid-Eastern/African/hip/tech] g>. All and all, pretty cool stuff. Obviously, both the highly schooled and inspired work product of professionals in search of a distinctive sound and genre all their own.
According to their group profile, 8 flipped on its side is the infinity sign. This gives you more than a clue where they're coming from and where they hope to go with their music. An ambitious undertaking indeed.
If you haven't already, you should check out ZAMAN 8 and make your own Playlist of their uploads. I assure you, if you do, you'll keep coming back and back to play their work and let it turn over and over in your mind's ear and imagination. Quite a cosmic trip!
NB: a note to readers of my reviews: the text of my reviews at this site may change from time to time. As I listen for futher nuances in a song or body of work, I keep modifying or adding to my thoughts, making my reviews an organic "moveable feast". Since Fuzz artists are constantly evolving, as are our own perspectives, I think Fuzz reviews should not be frozen in time. It's time to extend the power of real-time, web-based music discovery, by making our reviews, "wiki-reviews."
