Thank you all for your public comments and PMs in response to my various ramblings over the course of 2007. Also, thank you for your contributions during the year to the Nightschool For Entrepreneurs, a place we have jointly established here at fuzz to give artists and fans yet more perspectives about this wondrous thing called music, through sound-bite, storm, and fury.

Though flattering, many of you have been too kind about the value of my "mentorship" or role-playing as sensei this year, something some folks at fuzz suggested that I undertake. In acceding to that suggestion, I have just tried to rumple your brains a bit by playing the "mental framing game." As may have become evident over the course of the year, to me, our thought processes are for the most part all about framing.

I am not even a qualified teacher in the conventional academic sense, but only a facilitator at the Nightschool For Entrepreneurs, a place that, thanks to you, I have come to think of more and more of late as our collective University of Free[dom]. It is ideas, honestly expressed and without regard to cost, that make us free.

My role here has been largely to feed you some good links to a few more experienced pros who are really steeped in the music industry. As some of you move closer to the music biz as a core career choice [if that is where you're headed], you will of course need as many perspectives about the industry as you can get. As I come across them, I will continue to bring these independent views to our free nightschool.

To end out the year, here ia a recent post by David Byrne on Survival Strategies for Emerging Artists - and Megastars . I found it to be a good read regarding what music is all about [at least for Byrne]. As another framing exercise, Byrne has a useful breakdown of the economics of the traditional music food chain and take on the evolution of business models in the music industry. As he notes in the article, music is about what's in the carts in the food store, not the shopping carts that just move the goods.

We have much to learn through trial-and-error as we move into the unknown. I for one think 2008 will be a watershed year for music. These are exciting times indeed.

Once again, Happy Holidays to all!

TCC,

Thanks for your insight this past year. The "Nightschool" is a good place to continue the thinking that goes with a complicated industry. Here's to a great 2008.

You have NO idea how you have CHANGED my life Capital Clinic. Meeting you and musician Jerome Lee here on fuzz.com truly was a big highlight into understanding the music industries dynamics. As a music consumer, I have been sharing my thoughts so some artists know how we feel about their work (It is all positive I refuse to do a negative critique).

I actually feel as though I have a voice for a change as opposed to complaining. But, I think many people need to learn how to be respectful and constructive in their complaints on the music industry. "Nightschool" is the best.

I even told my Momma & Poppa that if you were in NYC that I would want to work with you on doing something to make your knowledge known.

Thank you for gracing us with "Nightschool."

2008 will be a great year knowing you are here!

Smiles, 2Serenity aka Jennifer
