What the participating artists have done with Strange Trax, as reflected in the discussion at The Birth of Strangers and reflected [only in part] at across the ponds mix, is educational, inspirational, and fascinating. These blogs are a must read and what is happening with Strange Trax is a must watch for all musicians and lovers of music on the fuzz site as we watch on a real-time basis an experiment on the possibilities of web-based artistic creation and development and the coming "Music Uprising".
In this regard, I put the following question to members of this community [and then try to give you my own initial thoughts about it]: What Do We Mean When We Say Strange Trax Exists?
To try to answer this question, I detach the player and listen to the first song uploaded by the "group", Walk On By. With the music playing, I look at and click around the Strange Trax "home page" and secondary nav tabs with my "finger of fate". I start to think about what is "life" as manifested in cyber-space and, more specifically, on this site.
Strange Trax now has a profile/bio. Strange Trax now has a song upload [Walk On By} that has been listened to and commented upon by many fans and we all hope there will be more to come. The group has band members [that may come and go as is often the case with bands]; there are fans [whose attention may wax and wane depending upon continuing interactivity with the "artist" through its various manifestions/band members], several reviews have been written. Strange Trax and its "band members" have linkages/network connections to others; the group has substantive content [just listen to the words and music of the Walk On By]; it has a place in the minds and hearts of hundreds of people and the number is growing. Sure, there is room for improvement - after all, the group has only been in "existence" for a few weeks, but it is developing it own history. Everything about Strange Trax is evolutionary and iterative. Everything about it is still tentative, delicate, and fragile. Its energy level will ebb and flow in cycles, depending on the initiative of its individual parts. If this is not life, what is?
When thinking about Strange Trax, the fuzz platform, and cyber-space more broadly as a cascading series of nested networks [or linkages that represent "energy" expended and ignited each time a connection is made], I would say that Strange Trax Exists. I would go further and say that Strange Trax has artistic presence and, thus, an artistic "heart and soul" manifested by its music in cyber-space.
In the same way that Strange Trax has an existence [for now] on the web and web-based possibilities, everyone's presence on this site [or for that matter anywhere else in cyberspace] is a function of the management of their individual networks [nodes and linkages in cascading series] as an evolutionary and iterative process. Our cyber-presence ebbs and flows and our linkages gossamer threads to centers of energy always in the making. We are all engaged in the management of the "real estate of our minds". Do we do this alone or with the connections that matter to us? I think the answer is obvious.
Go, Strange Trax! There is a storm coming. Music Uprising, indeed.

Comments

You writings are very deep, and cannot be merely blogged.
What we are experiencing is not just a change in how music can be created, but also how it can be marketed. Gone are the days when huge labels could choke an artist, and force him into dark corners as they had the money and the power. New creations produce new marketing ideas. And the new marketing ideas we experience here, are what become highly valuable. We can all "Make Music", my son can make music by tapping spoons on his knee. The evolving thing here is how music can now become marketed, socially; I see this as the biggest revolution of all.
The concept of Strange Trax firstly makes you want to listen, because we are curious creatures by habit. Take a look at the genres of the people leaving comments. Our genre has been classed as Rock, but many people listen? The marketing angle of the band is obvious, let’s hope curiosity doesn’t kill this cat!!
You mention the lyrics, I see more and more music drifts away from meaningful words, losing its path and deviating down roads of foolishness. Words are what matter and how they are said or sang or typed for this matter. Strange Trax is a new birth, a new way forward for artists of every genre, the most powerful tools to learn here are how people percept it, and what valuable ideas are discovered about getting our music heard, and of course sold.
A new breed of music, from a new breed of musician....
