My previous blog suggested that, at this stage in the ongoing Beta development of the Fuzz web-site, each participating user in the growing network should try to create AT LEAST 150 CONNECTIONS to generate energy and order [and even more connections as the network evolves]. In response, Maureen mentioned that, given the bedrock of the Fuzz manifesto for our community, the site provides new context to common threads at many levels and “the inherent order of the [Fuzz] platform takes the randomness out of..." complex network behavior. Since generating and sustaining network ENERGY and ORDER are critical, it is worthwhile to parse out Maureen's important response a bit to enhance network development.
We are all here at Fuzz participating in an experiment to push out the envelope in music and all that it touches. This tri-partite exercise involves Artists, Fans, and Fuzz.
(1) ARTISTS, as the transmitting nodes in a complex network, test the limits of the possible and, thus, operate in a region that has been metaphorically described as the edge of chaos; Artists provide the framework that defines our culture. (2) FANS, as the receiving nodes, try to assign values to the diverse signals that are constantly being transmitted; this creates a two-way dependency in "truth-values" where receiver becomes transmitter, and vice versa. (3) FUZZ is constantly in the process of re-inventing itself to create and maintain order at the edge of chaos between and among interchangeable transmitting and receiving participants. The experience of other web-based social communities that purport to be "cutting edge" but either embrace the conventional or descend into chaos, bears witness to the fact that creating energy and order at the edge of chaos is a non-trivial exercise.
For this grand experiment to succeed, Fuzz really needs the increasing connectivity of Artists and Fans and their ongoing feedback on what it takes, from the perspective of each participant, to both push out the envelope of the possible and to maintain order at the delicious and dangerous edge of chaos in our networked society. It is delicious precisely because it is dangerous, and it is dangerous because it is delicious. Go figure and then tell us about it or send a PM to the Fuzz team about how to improve this open, delicious, and dangerous platform.

I'm working on it, believe me.

Sounds great. I have decided to increase the level of connections to 200 as the Fuzz network expands. It's interesting to note that other Fuzzies, who are more adept at this sort of thing, are way ahead of the game. I think that I will pause for awhile to get a sense of what this dynamic process of network connectivity is all about.
