More tips and tricks for mixtapes

Jevs, created a terrific mixtape for Manny Cepeda. A few of Jevs' comments at Manny's page are as follows:

"From FAQ (http://www.fuzz.com/corp/support?tab=faq) it seems that it is currently impossible to edit mixtapes and probably no possibilities to copy it to other user pages. It is possible only to get script and to place it in websites that allow it (like [url=http://webwidgets.ning.com).]http://webwidgets.ning.com).[/url]

There is a trick how you can create mixtapes from your playlists easily:
http://www.fuzz.com/mixtapes/create?playlistId=
When you go to your playlist there should be an ID # and you just plug it in after the = .
Then it remains to follow instructions, clicking on your choices and uploading your image at the very end to place it somewhere within created mixtape."

1. I believe, while Jevs is correct that at present you cannot edit mixtapes, you can embed the mixtape in other places on the fuzz site by simply placing the mixtape ID # as follows:{mixtape}####{/mixtape} but replacing the {} with []. [This is described in the "View the formatting Guide" on your blog page.]

2. I just tried Jevs' "Fuzz Tips and Tricks" about transferring one of my playlists [Zaman 8] onto a mixtape by simply adding the playlist ID number 4068 to the end of: http://www.fuzz.com/mixtapes/create?playlistId=. This tip greatly simplifies the process of creating mixtapes from your playlists of your favorite fuzz artists. The mixtapes are, of course, widgets that can then be placed in many websites.

The fuzz techies have mentioned that they are also working on a few shortcuts to mixtape creation themselves; but, in the meantime, I hope with Jevs' fantastic shortcut, fuzzies will create more mixtapes for their favorite fuzz artists from their playlists and spread the word to their network contacts both at fuzz and elsewhere on the planet.

While I'm really digging the new fuzz feature, the Blip, I still think the best way to help market fuzz artists is to make mixtapes on their behalf and propagate the world with their songs. Of course, the fuzz artists can do this themselves as well. One shouldn't be shy about marketing oneself, if it is done tastefully. In my opinion, there is a world of difference between a juvenile "Check me out" and a well-constructed mixtape/widget that shows the artist at his/her best sent out by a passionate fan or even the artists themselves. What do you think?.

Cheers all, TCC

ps:

Here is my latest mixtape of Zaman 8. Eazy-peezy, thanks to Jevs:

By the way, the artist's rendition of thecapitalclinic in his favorite pose [sitting with a book] is by courtesy of Gabriel Jones. Ask him to make one for you.

Hi TCC,
I am really glad that you started this blog. The mixtapes are currently the most under rated features on Fuzz. Mixtapes are a great tool to spread the word for a.) Fuzz + b.) our beloved artists.

I am currently running some tests on different sites and just a very few of them do allow to embed mixtapes :-) -

but they work pretty fine on myspace :-)

As you can see on amazing Stella B.'s support page:

http://www.myspace.com/lulawaynejackson

But I really think the Fuzz tech team should improve the layout feature - it's very buggy and glitchy and not much fun to work with. And I know that's my personal opinion/ taste - but I dislike the preset layouts.
The outfit counts - as always "good music" alone is not enough. People get attracted by the visual appearance first....

Plus: It would be great to have different size options for the mixtape - I failed with adding it to one site because it is too big - means you could only see 1/3 of the mixtape....

Finally here is my newest mixtape:

+ the praise for the playlist/mixtape trick should go to emilyarta - Being super correct in a way just Germans can be: She was the one who came up with the playlist/mixtape trick.
She wrote me a pm after I started this blog:
Mixtape issues - then Clif did add it to his Fuzz Tip and Tricks + I told Jevs about it :-))

Hi TCC,
Thanks for your efforts to inform fuzz community about mixtapes possibilities.
As mentioned by DifferentStars all accounts about playlist/mixtape trick belongs to emilyarta. And I can agree that we need possibilty to select smaller sizes of mixtapes and backgound images. One more important feature that seems currently missing is possibilty to copy mixtapes.

Pls see my new (minimalistic) mixtape with Dan Albury music

http://www.fuzz.com/fan/jevs/mixtapes/255e950ba928a0bf . You need to listen few songs to be addicted.
Cheers.

I also experienced few times that mixtapes wouldn't open with Internet Explorer (only after waiting 10-20 mins and reloading), while there were no problems with FireFox. It could be when many people listening the same mixtape.

DS, thanks for sending me the music:)ally article.

I agree with the basic point that "digital dabblers" will NOT save the music business.

The most telling point, however, is made at the very end of this industry observer's release that:

"The new layers of value will come from the social
connections that come about through music as much as from the music itself."

I repeat for emphasis as much as from the music itself!

There is already great music on this site, but the ability of artists to "spread the word" effectively is dismal.

I think initiatives such as your group's Almost Fabulous [a micro-community of truly connected fans], the Blip [for short-term connections]. and greater use of an "enhanced" mixtape [for longer term connectivity and exposure] are the kinds of measures that will better help the indie artists trying to survive in the new, new world.

It is clear that most indie artists are not comfortable in this new environment and need a lot of help. Wouldn't it be something if we can succeed in giving them the guidance and support that they sorely need!

Somehow I feel that, slowly, slowly, we are "catching on" here.
