I listened to "Don't Start That Again" [rough mix] several times. Drum tracks sound fine to me, but perhaps less "full" in percussive counterpoint to the Cantona remix of energetic guitar licks and dj danger nun's distinctively lyrical sound when compared to some of the group's older pieces with similar tempo and assumed intent [End of a Trend/Skirt Chaser].
Maybe the tracks in their latest manifestation uploaded at Fuzz were re-worked so much [see Glenny's blog regarding his studio work on this piece] that just a little bit of the ostensible energy of spontaneity was lost in the process. Perhaps the more muted backing was intended to push out the glam vocals in contrast. Fans clearly go for that danger nun sound.
What are your views on the optimal percussive driver of the piece, drum or guitar [or in combination] versus [or in tandem with] danger nun.
I liked the signature of the melody at the beginning and the bang-up ending, as well as the provocative lyrics. [I can see the fans really digging this live].
Rough mix or finished piece, I think Cantona should just go for it!
NB: a note to readers of my reviews: the text of my reviews at this site may change from time to time. As I listen for futher nuances in a song or body of work, I keep modifying or adding to my thoughts, making my reviews an organic "moveable feast". Since Fuzz artists are constantly evolving, as are our own perspectives, I think Fuzz reviews should not be frozen in time. It's time to extend the power of real-time, web-based music discovery, by making our reviews, "wiki-reviews."
