The Nightwatchman
The Nightwatchman is more than a poetic vehicle of one man’s frustration with the existing order, it is a voice of fearlessness. It takes guts to become a one man revolution. As the Nightwatchman says, “Well I sang to myself…That I want to be free…But the road I must travel…Its end I cannot see.”

Tom Morello’s inspiration comes from the powerful notion that if you take one step towards freedom, it will take two steps towards you. We should follow the lead of this artist who has found the courage to use his new found voice and acoustic cadence to serve as a urgent counterpoint to his more notable and comfortable role as Daywatchman and electric guitarist extraordinaire. Music at its noblest takes you where you fear to go.

The Nightwatchman reminds us that “The time is nigh…The day is dark…There’s only one solution.” His message of discomfort resonates with the core message of TheCapitalClinic that the system is broken and must be disaggregated before it can be fixed. The Nightwatchman’s dark message to keep us awake at night is ultimately a message of hope for those who hear and act upon it. Fuzz should be commended for featuring this courageous, outspoken, and truly free artist/activist. Music Uprising, indeed!

NB: a note to readers of my reviews: the text of my reviews at this site may change from time to time. As I listen for futher nuances in a song or body of work, I keep modifying or adding to my thoughts, making my reviews an organic "moveable feast". Since Fuzz artists are constantly evolving, as are our own perspectives, I think Fuzz reviews should not be frozen in time. It's time to extend the power of real-time, web-based music discovery, by making our reviews, "wiki-reviews."

Nice review; I'd rate it, but Fuzz doesn't seem to want to let me - the date has passed maybe? Anyway, you get 5 stars in my book ; )
