Beyond All Reckoning
jahbulon put me onto this Grand Rapids group.

I am still climbing a steep learning curve about the "old" metal and here these guys already start to take me "beyond metal."

To be sure there is still the "signature" metallish gut-wrenching vocals and heavy cadence, but now with a, to me, more honest urgency and another level of multi-genre interplay of cascading sounds - which notably makes it more accessible to "non-metal" fans [if such a negative description is a fair one].

Metal, as a genre, can be, again, to me, a bit repetitive and tendentious. Based on my research to date of the "old" metal sound, the whole metal movement was working itself into a rut. In contrast, the new sound that this group is reaching for is, indeed, beyond all reckoning and has much to recommend. I hope they continue down the path they are heading.

Keep it up, whatever this new sound is, and teach me and other "non-metal" guys all about it [while, to be fair, I still learn more about the old stuff to give it a better hearing than my "off-the-cuff" impressions and judgments articulated above].

NB: a note to readers of my reviews: the text of my reviews at this site may change from time to time. As I listen for futher nuances in a song or body of work, I keep modifying or adding to my thoughts, making my reviews an organic "moveable feast". Since Fuzz artists are constantly evolving, as are our own perspectives, I think Fuzz reviews should not be frozen in time. It's time to extend the power of real-time, web-based music discovery, by making our reviews, "wiki-reviews."
