Holy smoke! As usual, tibii* [cc: 2serenity and any one else interested in this important subject] raises a whole boatload of multi-faceted issues in his short comment to me at my profile page on November 25, 2:25 AM regarding hip hop and use of the N word. I haven’t read Beverly Tatum’s work, “Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria”, that tibii cites; but I often observe, as we all have, to this day the same-race “cafeteria phenomenon” which is, not...
While site surfing I came across a song called, "baibaba bimba", by Tenniscoats [an experimental Japanese group] just uploaded at Fuzz with a melody and lilting quality that will worm its way into your brain and, ultimately, your minds-ear and heart. After a few listens, you'll start to hum, bai...ba-ba, bim...ba, yourself and feel happy. Watch out, it's catchy. Baibaba bimba is a novel combination of nostalgic Japanese "schooldaze", pop, and jazz with a hynotic...
The only degree that you will receive at the Nightschool for Entrepreneurs is a Master of Business Reality or “MBR”. Here is what this “business degree” is all about. I list below the core business principles common to both the MBR and the “MBA” [Master of Business Administration] and, thereafter, some important differences. While my bias is evident and disclosed [ I never got an MBA], I leave it to you to decide which is more valuable. I. Points in common in having an MBR and...
I note that, in addition to musicians, many indie labels and existing or potential business managers are signing up to find out what Fuzz is all about as it begins to gain critical mass [it is not there yet]. I was speaking with jeff, ceo of fuzz, the other day and discussing how best to describe the necessary function of the "intermediary" between the artist and the fans in the music industry. I say that this function is necessary because, by and large, the artists are not prepared...
Greenbubba, as befitting his Fuzz moniker sent me the video page link to a great speech by environmentalist/social activist/entrepreneur, Paul Hawken You can skip the introductory stuff and go directly to Hawken's speech. Here is the link: http://www.greenbuild365.org/videos/video_gb06_2.html [the greenbuild site is kinda slow, but just slide over the bubble to about 1/4 way through the video. You are there when you see a guy in a black blazer, blue and white stripe shirt and no...
Well, the clear statement of beliefs of the "seminal American punk rock band", Bad Religion, who just joined the Fuzz community, about the current human condition as set forth in their Fuzz profile says it all. For more background [not all verified] here is some more information about how Bad Religion got here. [If you don't agree, become a Wiki-editor.] The first Bad Religion upload at Fuzz, "Los Angeles Is Burning", is a 2004 Brett Gurewitz song from The Empire...
I'm digging and just getting into Inno's "post-modern" Hip-Hop style - if I may characterize it as such. Inno's work is tight and full of experimentation. I think Inno is about 24 years wise. Lot's of food for thought in his work, combining the energy of the streets with some bows to convention to make it more accessible to the mainstream. I think this is a good direction for HH. [For those interested about my perspectives, check out my comments on Dr...
tibii led me to to the page of her last unicorn and HLS's melancholic, somewhat discordant, songs from "down under". As I mentioned to tibii and HLS and now, hopefully, to others that give Her Last Unicorn a listen: The music scene "down under" is, in many ways, the right side up. I really enjoy the way most of the artists and music-lovers down under really embrace life - even if HLU seems, for now, to be in a more reflective mood. Everything seems more real in an...
As usual bossbass found a good one for us. He says to check him out and we must surely follow BB's unerring ear to find Jason Carroll and the Smooth Jazz Symphony. At 21, Jason Carroll is the "Three Musketeers" of Jazz. He is "one for all, and all for one" with his "smooth jazz". It is incredible that young Carroll is playing all of the instruments in his collection here at Fuzz. Smooth Jazz Symphony is an unbelievable one man tour de force. "Cruising...
Your recent blog on love and music: how they connect got me curious to give your songs another listen. I'm glad it did and I recommend others to read it and then listen as well. You give us a lot of music, emotion, and energy in three songs. I can feel the emotion that you write about in your honest blog, particularly in Per Se, I dig the short transition at 4:45. The only debate in my mind is whether melody comes before lyrics or lyrics before melody in Shuttle. Not a bad question to...
