blog Criticizing the critic for his refusal to deal with criticism

I read this review today. I really disagree with the tone of this review. Words like nonsense are pure offense if you don't use examples for backing up the opinion. Even worse, the user (who signed up yesterday) doesn't allow comments in his blog. Very bad style! If you criticize someone, you must be open for criticism too. That's fairness.

I think this incident may be helpful. I recommend to allow comments on every review, no matter about the preferred setting of the one who wrote it. An open music network should by no means become a playground for offending reviews without the option to comment the insults.

A note to all spamming wannabe artists: If I ever write a harsh review about your music, I'll definitely be able to back it up... ;)

Actually, this guy obviously has a very profound (pop-) musical knowledge. He surely knows what he is writing about. He DOES use examples for backing up his opinion. Actually, this is much better a review than most of the slimy uninterested comments in online communities. So I absolutely cannot agree to what you and Different Stars are saying about his QUALITY of criticism. It is good! He just has a different opinion than you.

Another question is if he refuses to deal with criticism. This cannot be concluded from using the function of not allowing comments. This may have to do with previous experiences , e.g. spamming. Or it might be lack of knowledge about the functions here.

IF it is a bad intention on his side of course you can criticize it - although even using that function is his freedom of choice. There is one problem: Currently you only imply that he has bad intentions, you don't even know this for sure. So as an old hippie I would like to ask you to cool down and say those magic words to you: "Easy Easy".

No one has to like the art work but to call this home made - nothing more to say is unqualified!!

Just a very few artists here on Fuzz have art work that is close to be as professional as these pics.

Haha, if Damis' English wasn't too good for that, I would strongly assume you learned from this "Nude model lover and close friend of Madonna" madman, who got to no. 2 of the Fuzz charts by causing a lengthy discussion about him, and hence you would try to cause a discussion about "The Sables" where a fake account named Damis plays the bad guy role (J.R. Ewing, Annabelle van Weyden etc.). Presumably if we go on discussing his behaviour The Sables will shoot up straight in the Fuzz charts, competing with the nude model guy!

Trust me, tibii! A male voice accompanied by a harp and a guitar doesn't necessarily mean that this is Dylan style. Damis' review is insulting and offers no deeper knowledge about music. In fact I am not even a big fan of their music. So I don't write a blog about the Sables because I want to promote their music and neither would I use a trick to push their music into the fuzz Top Ten. I am eloquent and smart enough to spread the word about any band without creating a fake account. Accidentally I plan to review Apraxia later this week and hope this act will get more attention.

The problem with a small community like fuzz seems to me that you have to define rules and settings before it is huge enough and bad habits can't be changed easily. Stop users to harm bands without option to criticize comments like "dull voice" and "weak lyrics". I want examples for weak lyrics, because if they suffer from a lyric weakness, I'd be happy to provide creative input free of charge for the Sables.

If the song "Roaring Lion" has any similarity with Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door", I'll eat my hat.

Damis' review disappeared. Unfortunately I didn't make this up - but sounds like a great idea. Maybe I should sign up as "Tommy-hater" and "Krauts-sucks" just to write bad reviews about Lula, Wayne Jackson and The Majority and then be able to save their reputation with my DifferentStars account :-D

SomeVapourTrails, this

"Trust me, tibii! A male voice accompanied by a harp and a guitar doesn't necessarily mean that this is Dylan style."

is uncool. You give the false impression that I would think any male voice with harp and guitar is Dylan style, only to teach me then that this is wrong thinking - a thinking which (remember!) I never had but which you only suggested I have.

You apply the same trick to prove that Damis' review was insulting and unfounded. But you cannot first claim (without really knowing it) that someone is thinking something and then use this as an argument to prove he is wrong.

Well I had no intention to imply that you made the Dylan comparison, tibii. My remark was meant as a proof that the reviewer had no profound musical knowledge. He compared the Sables track Roaring Lion with Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door. In fact the whole review worked on the principle that every nice word was overruled by a negative one latter in the sentence. This approach is a pretty bad rhetorical trick and because of that I think the review was insulting.

Hmmm, when you answer to someone named Joe

"Trust me Joe! A black cat walking under a ladder does not mean misfortune."

I'm pretty sure that Joe will think that you imply he is superstitious. But perhaps this misunderstanding is due to both of us speaking in a foreign language.
Still I think you should not suggest Damis has bad intentions. It could well be that he simply is someone who just stated his opinion. Having read for many years slag off reviews in magazines like NME I must say that what he wrote was relatively harmless. What do you think about his theory that The Sables try to be a bit like Zero 7? Did you know Zero 7? I did not. Damis did.
