Welcome to the Working Week

Hey there! My name is Pete Greenberg and would you believe the kind kind folks at Fuzz asked me to write a few words on a semi-regular basis (they call it a “column”, I call it getting a chance to ramble in print... or type anyway). Now you might be thinking how does a fellow such as myself end up getting the chance to contribute to the ever expanding and entertaining empire that is Fuzz... well, here's a little on my background for you and hopefully, this will interest you enough to read on and look forward to future installments. Have spent about 10 years in the great city of Seattle and have been involved in the music scene here for just about as long. Spent about 5 years working at Sonic Boom records which if you weren't aware (although, how could you not be?) is one of the best record stores in town! From there, it was a hop to the late great Crocodile Cafe (r.i.p.) as a booker/talent buyer and promotions coordinator, to finally this past December have ended up at Chop Suey (another amazing live music venue) as a talent buyer/production manager. What's neat about getting the opportunity to write for Fuzz is that I get to share some of my insights, excited music picks/choices, recipes, and whatnot with you. How fun is that? Like getting a chance to share some stories of what really is involved in booking a club as well as endless amounts of demos, phone calls, and e-mails that sortig through can and sometimes do make it all worthwhile. In fact some of the upcoming bands heading this way to Chop Suey I'm really excited about. Like The Submarines who are from Los Angeles and play this great quirky sort of indie-pop . Then there's Styrofoam with that electronic beat pop that has landed them a tour with Death Cab recently. And while we're on the topic of rad and diverse and talented artists heading this way, looks like in the not too distant future, we'll be getting a visit from Earlimart, Cute is What We Aim For, and tons of other rad hotness!! Also, for wanted to mention a few bands that aren't necessarily playing here in the nearish future (although, you never know...) but am pretty stoked on as it is... like The Avett Brothers who have a great rock/americana sensibility and lyrics that know how to cut your heartstrings, Wolf Parade who are on the infamous Sub Pop records and are coming out with a new album not too far off (and also have an amazing side project called Handsome Furs which if you haven't heard, you need to!), and The Night Marchers (who feature Speedo/John Reis from RFTC) that really know how to kick out that loud surf garage punk style that is timeless but doesnt sound dated at all. Thanks for taking the time to read. I don't know about you but, I'm looking forward to seeing what I babble about next...

-Pete
