Know how I started playing bass? My brother was a bass player all thru high school and had band practice in our garage after school. I never really had much interest, except he taught me Smoke on the Water when I was 11. When I was in my mid-20's we were both living in Mpls. and he was working at a restaurant and made pasta in the mornings. He was in the basement making pasta and got his hand caught in the pasta machine and the only other person in the restaurant was upstairs and they were vacuuming so they couldn't hear him scream. When the guy finally finished vacuuming my brother still had to wait because the fire dept. had to actually disassemble the thing to get his hand out. It was mangled flat. So he couldn't play bass anymore and he gave me his bass. Kat lived across the street from me at the time and taught me how to tune it. John, my brother, never saw any of our shows. I don't blame him one bit.

Hey Silverback aka Duane Denison,
I didn't say how I got in Babes, dumbass,I said how I started playing bass. Yes, you showed me all the bass lines to the Babes song and it's completely because of you that I was lucky enough to get in the band and I thank you. And you still won't even sell me my bass back.

um Like Maureen? I saw you at 1st Avenue as a headliner in Mpls. for a few tunes, and the backstage break. but today i appreciate your contribution to the music industry. I still play the shit out of my bass. Ijust bought a 5 string, im teaching myself to use my fingers in compensatory angles, i think the old 4 string hid the fret buzz and the over twangs better. the pickup on the new ones are as yet untested on a real amp, excep the the nervous test drive in a music store.

OK, John, you saw 1 show! 1 show in five years and my band was based in your town, dude! No, I'm really not bummed about it. You've been a great brother and happy birthday by the way. I think your new bass looks awesome but I didn't try it out because I'm afraid of that fifth string. What if it starts talking to me? So folks, tumblweed is my brother, so tell him happy birthday.
