I got a message from Fuzz user PunkPorpoise (http://www.fuzz.com/fan/PunkPorpoise) who informed me that she had committed "MySpace Suicide" because it was causing her more stress than anything else.

I told her I hoped she wouldn't have to ever commit Fuzz suicide. What makes a site fun to be at? What makes it stressful? Of course I think about this stuff a lot. Maybe too much.

For myself it's interacting with people I know and am getting to know who have common interests. It's weird--like the 6 degrees of separation thing. There is so often a commonality. So often it turns out that even with a complete stranger, we have either a common friend, a common experience, or a common passion.

It's also letting other people know about cool people like PunkPorpoise. She's been on Fuzz since February, but we've mainly been connecting on MySpace, where she found me, having been a Babes fan. So go say hi, because I think she's cool. But don't make her commit suicide.

Hi Maureen - You know, I got dragged into MySpace because of all the music websites that were moving there, then people I knew found out I was there, so more friends added, but it just seems like the whole thing was a "who can have the most friends" and a bunch of nonsense talk I didn't really care about. I think FUZZ is awesome because it seems so much personal - people w/different musical tastes all respecting each other - and dare I say, YES, it's for a more mature group of people. That's NOT to say that young people shouldn't feel comfortable here, just that they should be a bit LESS of the "gossipy" and "watch me do this insane stunt" sort and MORE focused. Did that make sense? I won't commit MySpace suicide, yet - too many of my faves (like The Nightwatchman among others) still have great info there. BUT...I have begun to block people - even friends - who can just pick up the telephone or e-mail me if they have something to tell me. All those useless comments (even from people/family/friends that I love)...geez, I just don't have time for that. But even if I don't reply right away to a FUZZ comment, I ALWAYS save it and get back to it later. People here have positive, fun, interesting, vital things to say and post. Personally, I love it, and wish I had MORE time to spend on it - I think you guys are doing a fantastic job at filling a void left by MySpace. Now, I'm going to go read what PunkPorpoise had to say - sounds like another great friend, lol ; ) .

Wow - that was a pretty thoughtful comment that makes total sense Rhonda. Thanks for the encouragement.

I never compare. It's a waste of time.

I love Fuzz, but for example: if it weren't for myspace and having Eddie Izzard as a friend I would never have received his bulletin. I saw him perform Monday night in SF. I was able to purchase tix to the show quickly because of the bulletin.

People need to get thicker hides when they are on the internet. Some people take what others do or say too seriously and over react. I have met many interesting peeps here and I have met some very intriguing people like authors, writers, etc. on myspace. What's the big deal?

Stop over-analizing everything.....things are what they are. geeeesh!

Slamming the other spaces and other people is just NOT good Karma...

They are what they are and you are what you are!

Get some self-esteem.

Hey T-Cub! Whoa! Back the truck up! Don't worry I wasn't concerned with some high school he said she said rubbish. I am almost thirty! I simply wanted to be in the country more and off the computer! Gosh. I haven't 'slammed' my space. It can be a great tool. Just had too much of it. An overdose. Hence..suicide. Stay happy! Cheers. x

T-Cub, As usual, you have many valid points to express on the new environment, including your comments above and your own blog question: Internet, curse or cure?

Link: http://www.fuzz.com/fan/TCUB/blog/The-internet-music-rules-of-engagement-The-internet-curse-or-cure

I myself have been given to hyperbole in demonizing the OtherSpace when the better approach should be that Artists need every access to the internet community that they can get and have time to develop to their personal advantage/satisfaction.

In this regard, I have often discussed with the folks at Fuzz that, in my view, as a new kid on the block they are well-positioned to benefit from the "power of the conjunctive, rather than disjunctive" meaning that Artists will, in time, use both MySpace AND Fuzz rather than MySpace OR Fuzz.

In order to make sure that the Internet is a Cure rather than Curse, both Artists and Fans should optimize rather than minimize communications and distribution channels. Some will use more, some less, according to time and inclination.

I hope I have restored some of that bad Karma you mentioned. Mono no aware. [So as not to hi-jack Maureen's blog, I can take your further comments, if any, at my/your page.]

PP, see I have to apologize to you. I can be a butt sometimes just ask my friends;) and they're my friends. YIKES!

Didn't mean to throw a Karma bomb at you I'm guilty of bad karma too, then. I'm sorry for being harsh. I'm not talking from atop some mountian with stone tablets. My friends think I am sometimes...hahaha. They still love me. Hope you do to.
