Mainstream success

Crash Test Dummies first began to achieve commercial success in Canada with the release of The Ghosts that Haunt Me in 1991. The album eventually reached quadruple platinum sales (400,000) in Canada, largely due to the overwhelming popularity of the smash hit single "Superman's Song," which earned the Dummies the 1991 Juno Award for Group of the Year.

However, the Dummies did not receive much international recognition until the 1993 release of their second album, God Shuffled His Feet. Particularly instrumental in increasing CTD's exposure in the U.S. market was the appearance of a new type of radio format: adult album-oriented alternative rock (AAA). These stations put the single "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" in high rotation. The result was that by mid-1994, the album had passed the platinum sales mark in the U.S. (one million), and had also earned the Dummies three Grammy nominations and three more Juno nominations. To date, GSHF has sold more than five and a half million copies worldwide. [......]

The Dummies today

On August 6, 2006, a message was posted by Brad Roberts on the band's website stating that the band was more or less done with touring and that he was currently working on an album, with Stewart Lerman, using the optigan and omnichord. Brad also stated that the new recordings will be released for download online, for a modest fee, instead of being sold in retail stores.

On May 10, 2007, the song "It's a Small Town," written for a charity event in Englishtown, Cape Breton, was released for download off the band's website.

On September, 2007 an official podcast was launched for the band and it was announced that Sony BMG will be releasing a "best of" compilation for the band. In addition a new online store was opened allowing users to purchase downloads from all of the band's post-BMG releases, including the new Cape Breton Lobster Bash series. [.....]

Rate Your Music is a metadata database where musical albums, EPs, singles, videos, and bootlegs are rated and reviewed by users. This data is then used to generate music recommendations for users and to create rated lists of music albums. Weighted averages are used to calculate the ordering for these lists; regular members who write reviews and rate more albums have a greater weight applied to their ratings. It is a wiki in the sense that users can add, edit and remove content; however, the majority of new, edited content must be approved by a moderator.

Your voice is distinctive - bright, breathless, uplifting, but only for the most part - the distinctive element lies in the all-important qualifier [which I think the reviewer in your bio was getting at when he/she suggests more nuance and depth than your here-today-gone-tomorrow popster - I hope you find this deeper vein].Makes me think of crystal petals, not wanting to fall down. I will circle back again later./

Lets get back to the important thing - this bands music. I love "Waiting For The Tide" and "Sunbeam". A great laid back melodic flowing vibe going on throughout this bands' music. I usually don't compare, but if one likes bands like ; The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Warlocks, Jesus and Mary Chain, Mazzy Star, Stevenson Ranch Davidians...etc... then this band would as well be appealing to your senses. I do need to mention however that they definitely have their own stamp on this style of music at the same time though, which makes their sound pretty distinctive. Good recording quality too! Amen !

How do you build your artist database?
We build our artist database based on information provided from various sources. Here's a bunch of information if you want to learn how it works:
1) Users contribute data about an artist and their discography through the iLike Sidebar
When users play music on their computer, we use that data to grow a worldwide discography based on what real people are listening to....
We see lots of different misspellings for the same artist. We have some algorithms to correct this, we have improvements in the pipeline to make this better, and at some point we will ask our userbase to help us catch more miss-spellings. For now, if you look at a page with a miss-spelled artist or song, it won't have proper photos or clips, because we didn't match it up to the real artist/song.
