The many different layers of Jostel Hason
A man who writes with fervor, his lyrics tell stories (not to be confused with fiction) of his life, both past and present. It is his strength that allows his soul to be completely naked not concerned with those who may judge a man whom to me has many different layers.
These layers of Jostel are something that can’t just be pulled away and dissected with ease. His music gives us that insight into these many different layers. I say insight because there are layers of Jostel that haven’t even been breached. Take ‘Mine to Lose’…Jostel was as most of us were at one point in our lives, indulgent and self consumed. His ability to come out of such indulgence even though in my opinion is necessary as we ultimately go through the four stages of life. It was his ability to want to change, want to be a different person and through his music he feels that this is his way of repenting. I admire that as many of us know not what we do and perhaps will never know. ‘Clairvoyance’ is another tune that tells us of his youth and how self realization hit him hard. ‘Shame on me’ is a beautiful song dedicated to his wife who in my opinion was his savior. The chance meeting that perhaps a year later, they would have not met. It is his wife who supports his craft but most importantly helps build upon his self awareness. A song that I have loved from the first listen is ‘Anti’. A tribute you to the troops fighting a war that is bringing them back in body bags or permanently disabled. “Glossy Eyed in America’ is a line that is beautiful yet so poignant. Jostel Hason lacks modesty but perhaps that is a good thing…because as he says and I have to agree….no one –no one does his thing.
