This last weekend I drove down to the Bay area yet again to feed my lust for great music. I went to Budget Rock at the Stork Club on Friday (Rock and Roll Adventure Kids as well as many other kick ass bands, yay!), and HelL3 at Kimball's Carnival(though I missed my beloved Maldroid's set, how embarrassing!)and the annual Zombie Party at the Command Center on Saturday (Phenomenauts and Epoxies, whoo hoo!). At one point during the Rock and Roll Adventure Kids set on Friday, I became frustrated in my attempts to get closer to the stage so I could be near all the action and I noticed that many of the people up front near the stage were just standing there somewhat lethargically. I found this somewhat displeasing, and I thought to myself, "If you're just going to stand there like a bump on a log, why don't you move to the back and let those of us who want to dance and show our enthusiasm come closer?" Then I wondered if it's somehow "uncool" to get too excited at these shows, in which case I've been making a regular jackass out of myself all this time. But it just can't be helped, I'm afraid. It's beyond my control! I would assume that the people onstage who are busting their asses to put on a good show for all of us in the audience would prefer to see people having a good time and enjoying the music, rather than just standing there gaping. Then it occurred to me that the lack of entusiasm from people at the front of the stage seemed like a somewhat similar complaint that some of my stripper friends have about people who sit the stage watching but not tipping. This comparison amused me greatly, and after the Rock and Roll Advendure Kids's set, I shared my observation with the drummer, a very attractive and charming young man named Billy. He really seemed to get a kick out of the comparison as well, which made me wonder if any other musicians out there had ever had a similar thought, or if they would agree with the assesment. I would be very curious to hear anyone else's opinions on the matter, feel free to share...

I've noticed this over the years in the bay area. Playing in bands it has alwasy been frustrating - just hoping there's people standing there scratching their goatee, too cool to dance. *Note when you go tot he younger shows (Blakes, Gilman, etc) the kids go crazy... so I assume its an age thing. I for one am a little old and crusty, so don't get my mosh on much. But would sure LOVE toplay infront of people who weren't afraid to move their asrses.

I hate when the crowd stands like a flock of sheep. I really do. You come out to have a good time....do it! Don't just stand there like statues.
