When a band tells me they think their label may not allow them to sell their music here at Fuzz, what can I say? Do bands really sign away their publishing rights in perpetuity for a pressing of a few thousand? Honestly, without reading their contracts for them, what can I tell bands about signing here at Fuzz?

Unfortunately, in many cases this is likely the result. (To clarify, we are not talking about 'publishing' which is the 'who wrote/owns the songs' question, but the 'who owns the sound recordings' question.) Generally, when a band signs a traditional record deal, the label owns (or co-owns or has exclusive rights to sell) the recording. If the band knows the person to call, getting in touch with the label might be a way to fix this - if the label can see that value in that Fuzz is a positive thing for them (more exposure for the music, more chances to sell, etc.). Feel free to PM me if you want more ideas on possible approaches to this problem. In full disclosure I am Fuzz's attorney and one of its founders, so this is not legal advice blah blah blah.

Yes, I tell people that. But selling here, when they're typically on iTunes and CDBaby, is a plus. It's like playing roulette and covering the board, right?
