The marriage license that was in VIBE magazine was a fraud.

This one:

Aaliyah was listed as being 18 years old when she was 15 in August 1994 for her birthday is in January. Further, in order to have a valid marriage in IL you have to be 18. Marriages from 16-17 are allowed with consent of a parent or guardian but in Aaliyah's case her age was not authenticated nor was consent from her parents given.

This webpage here discusses the entire rumor and says that Aaliyah WAS NOT MARRIED!

Also seeing media coverage like this made you wonder if they were married but they were NOT:

No you're right! Even R. Kelly admits they were not married!! She was only 15 when the rumors were spread around...the time when "Back and Forth" was a hit!

@Christine - thank you for reading and sharing. I used to love the song, "Back & Forth!" Back back and forth and forth. I need to find my CD! 8)

@2Serenity! Yeah...that was the summer I met my husband!! I told someone once that music is like a memory keepsake!! SERIOUSLY!!!

I miss Aaliyah btw...I loved her last album..."more than a woman was my song", "we need a resolution" AND "I care 4 U" was played on repeat many a times!!! What a shame!!!

@christine - I enjoyed her last album too! In fact, I am so embarrassed that I bought her album the day she died because I was in shock the girl was dead. Further, she lived in my neighborhood in NYC and I would not be surprised if I may have passed her on the street not knowing it because the security in my neighborhood said they would see her from time to time but she wore hoodies over herself so you really did not know if it was her unless she looked directly at you.

I actually saw her brother Rashad last year crossing the street when I was going home. Weird.

It is a shame she died. Way too young!

@2Serenity: Amazing how this world can be so small and the things we miss out on just trying to live our everyday lives! Don't be embarrassed that you bought her album the day she died...it was your way of mourning her death...especially if we don't know the individual personally!! You did her a great honor in my opinion!! I was in shock that she died too! Her and left eye really took me by shock actually! Didn't Rashad do her voice overs for the movie she did "Queen of the damned"?
