Politics have always been close to Tom Morello’s heart. Last Saturday, however, marked the first time the Rage Against The Machine guitarist actually endorsed a political candidate when he performed a benefit concert in San Francisco under his folkie alter-ego The Nightwatchman for anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan. “It is an honor to perform at Cindy Sheehan’s fundraising event because I strongly believe she is the kind of uncompromising righteous voice for justice that this country so desperately needs,” Morello said. “Her unwavering commitment to peace and human rights as well as her intelligence and fortitude are inspiring and stand in dramatic contrast to the lame parade of mealy-mouthed sell-outs and red state war-mongers we are normally forced to choose between.”
Sheehan, who is best known for camping outside President George W. Bush’s Texas ranch after her son Casey was killed during his service in the Iraq War, is challenging Congressional House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California’s 8th district, which covers most of San Francisco. Sheehan announced her candidacy in protest of the inaction she perceived on the part of Democrats, particularly Pelosi, in standing up to Bush on the war and other issues. Why does these stupid fucks even get a voice? Shut up Tom Morello and Cindy Sheehan, has-been musician and heinous bitch. Really, when it comes to the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the only opinion I really care about is the soldiers'. But then again, rich dipshit musicians really have a unique insight into current events.
What a fucking joke. The fact that people can call either of them brave makes me lose faith in the American people. Musicians play music, they know very little about the outside world. Cindy Sheehan is a pawn for a really fucking annoying and pathetic organization that likes to attack soldiers doing their job at recruitment stations. Fuck them.
And what is it you have against political activists anyways? What is so wrong with people trying to make thier voice heard? And what wrong with using your level of fame to help inform people about what is going on in the world without having to get it from the biased news groups?

Musicians and outspoken individuals such as Sheehan have just as much insight into the atrocities of war, into corruption, and into inaction, as the rest of the breathing American population does. And just as much personal experience with war as President Bush. There's no reason to go mouthing off and spouting profane insults at people that are doing what they can to make a difference. If you're going to scream at someone like that, scream at the people who sit idly by and wait for their world to change by itself.
A great Canadian once told me that you can't get wise with the sleep still in your eyes. At least Morello and Sheehan are awake.
Has Cindy Sheehan or Tom Morello been to Iraq? Can they state without a doubt after that trip that we do not need to stay there for stabilities sake?
But are they awake? As a musician myself, and a non political pawn, I see things a lot differently than most. I do agree with freedom of speech, I've done my share of fighting for that right (spent 10 years in the USMC). I believe that everyone has the opportunity to express themselves. My only request is that they educate themselves before forming opinions.
Some talk about atrocities of war. What would they know of war? Have they been there? No, they are only fed by the media, which is not "neutral", no matter what people think.
Some talk about corruption. We are talking politicians.....
Some talk about inaction. If the US was not to get involved, how long before there is a group complaining about inaction. If the US does get involved, how long before there is a group complaining about action? Double edged sword, no matter what.
There is a story about sheep that kyr refers to that is actually a very good thought provoking story. It should be read by all the sheep, or, in layman's terms, the Americans who feel that they are owed something, instead of earning it.
I find it very comical that some feel they are doing "everything they can to make a difference". When was the last time those individuals stood that front line? When was the last time they defended to the death our way of life? Answer: Never!
Morello is helping. Much, much, more than any troll could ever say.
